Pininfarina Signs On To Design Indian SUVs and MPVs

Pininfarina, known for such showstoppers as the Ferrari 550 Barchetta and 612 Scaglietti and the Maserati Quattroporte, is on track to design vehicles for the emerging India car market.

Pininfarina on Wednesday signed an agreement to provide design services for the Sonalika Group, an Indian industrial company mainly known for building tractors and car components. In a statement, Pininfarina said the move "confirms the international vocation of our design" and "attests the great attention Pininfarina pays to the emerging Indian market."

Sonalika Group recently said it would boost investments in SUVs and MPVs for the India market, noting they are vehicles less influenced by the lack of modern road infrastructures.

This is not Pininfarina's first foray into the India market. In February, it signed an agreement of cooperation with India's National Institute of Design to work on educational programs and automotive joint design projects.
