Automotive News : Roush Revs Up Mustang With 2008 427R Trak Pak

Even though Roush's new 427R Trak Pak Mustang was inspired by Trans-Am and IMSA racing, the vehicle is being pitched as a "daily driver" by the Ford tuner. Only 100 units of the Trak Pak Mustang will be built.

Roush says its 427R Trak Pak Mustang churns out 435 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque. A three-piece aero kit gives Roush's latest creation its personality, with a front fascia, front chin spoiler and hood scoop — along with functional hood pins, graphics and badging. It can be dressed up further with an optional rear carbon-fiber spoiler and rear quarter-window louvers.

The cabin gets a three-gauge dash pod with engine oil temperature, coolant temperature and a boost gauge. Other interior touches include a short-throw shifter with retro-style ball and a performance pedal kit.

The 427R Trak Pak Mustang gets a revamped suspension system with adjustable front and rear shocks, front and rear springs and adjustable camber/caster plates, among other things. The cooling system has been enhanced and the tuner has added six-piston front calipers with 14-inch, two-piece slotted front rotors and slotted rear rotors to the brakes. High-performance racing-quality brake pads round out the package.

"Even though this car has, obviously, a lot of content which was designed for track use, I foresee most owners using this as a 'daily driver,' as the Roush 427R Trak Pak Mustang is our best-handling Mustang ever," said Joe Thompson, Roush Performance vice president and general manager.

The tuner said some of the 427R Trak Pak Mustang components will be available separately. Pricing and component details will be announced later.
