Suzuki Opens Malaysia Plant To Build Swift

Automotive News, Suzuki
Suzuki's partnership with DRB-Hicom, a local industrial giant and part owner of Malaysian carmaker Proton, has come to fruition as their new assembly plant has just opened.

The plant is part of DRB-Hicom's manufacturing complex in the city of Pekan, where Mercedes-Benz cars and Ssangyong SUVs are being assembled. The newly completed assembly line has hiked production capacity to 60,000 units.

DRB-Hicom plans to assemble 300 Swift subcompacts a month. It will be retailed through newly created Suzuki Malaysia Automobile at prices 30 percent lower than the fully built imported version that was previously distributed. From now on, only the Swift Sport will be imported from Japan.
