Automotive News : Pontiac Beefs Up High-Performance Offerings With New 2008 Torrent and G6 GXPs
General Motors revealed details of what's to come with the new Pontiac G8 performance sedan this week, saying the lineup will "offer a V6-powered base model and a V8-equipped GT model." The Pontiac G8 is the automaker's first North American application of GM's new global rear-wheel-drive architecture. It will arrive in showrooms in January.The base G8 will be powered by a 3.6-liter DOHC V6 and deliver 261 horsepower. It is linked to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The G8 GT gets a 6.0-liter small-block V8 rated at 362 hp and 391 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode is standard.

The 2008 Pontiac G6 GXP comes in coupe and sedan variants. Both are powered by a 3.6-liter DOHC V6 that produces 252 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. The engine is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. Standard features include a performance-tuned suspension with antilock brakes, 18-inch aluminum alloy five-spoke wheels and special exterior and interior touches.

The G6 GXP and the Torrent GXP join the Solstice and the Grand Prix in Pontiac's GXP stable.
