BMW First To Offer iPhone Integration

BMW of North America is the first automaker to recognize and capitalize on the Apple iPhone phenomenon.

On a Web page headed "BMW welcomes the Apple iPhone", the automaker said it will be among the first car companies to begin phasing in integration of the iPhone on selected models.

BMW said the iPhone can be used with 3 and 5 Series cars built since March, X5's since April and 6 Series beginning with September production. Integration with other models will be phased in after that.

The company said owners can access mobile-phone functions on vehicles equipped with BMW Assist and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Access to music functions via vehicle controls and radio display is enabled only on vehicles equipped with an iPod/USB interface.

BMW said its Customer Relations Department, at (800) 831-1117, can answer additional questions.
