The 2008 Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS and Cadillac STS will be among the first U.S. vehicles to be equipped with a new blind-spot detection system developed and supplied by Valeo Raytheon.
The system is designed to make lane-change maneuvers safer by warning of vehicles in the adjacent lane of travel.
Valeo Raytheon is a joint venture between the French auto supplier and the U.S. aerospace company. Raytheon developed the infrared Night Vision system that was previously offered by Cadillac.
Valeo Raytheon said it expects ultimately to combine ultrasonic, infrared and vision-sensing technologies to achieve 360-degree surveillance of the vehicle's immediate environment.
