NASCAR Link in Plane Crash That Left Five Dead

The president of International Speedway Corporation, Lesa France Kennedy, was the owner of the small plane that crashed in this suburban Orlando town on Tuesday morning. Two occupants of the plane — Kennedy's husband, plastic surgeon Bruce Kennedy, and NASCAR Aviation pilot Michael Klemm — died in the crash, and three people in homes on the ground were also confirmed dead this afternoon.

Lesa France Kennedy is the daughter of the late NASCAR chairman Bill France, Jr., and the plane was registered to a company he owned, Competitor Liaison Bureau of Daytona Beach, the Associated Press reported today. Bill France, Jr., died in June.

The twin-engined Cessna 310 crashed into a neighborhood in Sanford this morning en route from Daytona Beach to Lakeland and at the point of impact was a little more than a mile from the Orlando airport.

Among those injured were reportedly a firefighter and a 10-year-old boy with burns over 80-90 percent of his body, the AP reported.
