General Motors Can Say "We're Number One" Again...Sort of

Automotive News, New Car
General Motors, which was the world's largest carmaker for decades until being overtaken by Toyota early this year, posted better global sales figures than the Japan-based automaker for the period of April through June 2007. However, Toyota sold more than GM worldwide if figures for the first six months of 2007 are tallied.

GM's sales in April through June were 2.41 million globally, versus 2.37 million for Toyota. However, GM's sales in the United States were down 7 percent during the three-month period, and almost 58 percent of the sales GM posted for the second-quarter period were made outside the home market.

Meanwhile, Toyota's worldwide sales were up 8 percent for the period.
