Car Review : Chrysler Rolls Out 2008 PT Street Cruiser Sunset Boulevard Edition

Chrysler said it is kicking off Woodward Dream Cruise festivities this week with the rollout of its latest limited-edition model, the 2008 PT Street Cruiser Sunset Boulevard Edition. The car will go on sale later this summer starting at $16,650 for the manual-transmission model and $17,475 for the automatic-transmission model. Both prices include a $640 destination charge.

Chrysler notes that this is the 11th customized version of the PT Cruiser since the car's introduction in 2000. The latest model is spun off the 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser LX.

Details include special Sunset Crystal paint, 16-inch chrome-clad nine-spoke wheels with all-season tires, a power moonroof and deep-tint sunscreen glass. Street Cruiser badging decorates the rear liftgate. Interior touches include Pastel Pebble Beige sport bucket seats, bright sill scuff pads and bright accent ring cupholders.

The Sunset Boulevard Edition joins such special models as the Flames, Woodie and Street Cruiser Route 66. Sunset Boulevard is an iconic thoroughfare in popular culture. It was the setting for the 1960s TV series 77 Sunset Strip and served as the inspiration for the 1950 movie of the same name, as well as the 1993 Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that starred Glenn Close as Norma Desmond.

Japanese Minivan Wars: Toyota Rolls Out Redesigned Voxy and Noah

If you thought only American moms picked minivans based on the flexibility of rear seats, think again. When Toyota introduced the redesigned Voxy and Noah minivans on its home turf Wednesday, it touted "the world's first one-touch folding third-row seats."

The "one-touch extra space" function lifts the seats up in the Voxy and Noah and folds them away with a single touch, Toyota said. The second-row seats are pretty state-of-the-art, too. They rotate toward the exterior, 60 degrees on the passenger side and 30 degrees on the driver side, and feature a design that eases the buckling of kids into child-restraint seats.

Toyota said the minivans will be launched here in late June and that it expects to sell 60,000 units a year of each vehicle. The Voxy and Noah were first introduced in 2001. They are not available in the U.S.

The two look like miniature minivans and employ what Toyota describes as its Vibrant Clarity design philosophy, one that puts a premium on simplicity. Powertrain highlights include a newly developed 2.0-liter engine outfitted with a "Valvematic" continuously variable valve lift mechanism, linked to a seven-speed sports sequential transmission with a paddle-shift-type lever that Toyota says has the feel of a manual transmission.

Other features include an intelligent parking assist system that helps with steering when parallel-parking.

Ford Mustang Cologne Set for Mass-Market Stampede

When Estee Lauder's Aramis brand introduced a Mustang fragrance for men a few weeks ago at Sears, it was such a runaway hit that it will be rolled out at Wal-Mart, Kohl's and other mass-market chains, Ford has decided.

"Sales of Mustang have just been incredible and beyond expectation," said Jesse Porto, director of global marketing for Aramis and Designer Fragrances. "In its first week of sales at Sears stores throughout the United States, it was the No. 1-selling fragrance."

So what does the pony perfume smell like? The Sears Web site describes it as "bright and musky with lavender, ginger and lemon and undertones of pipe tobacco and cedarwood, while the base is finished with amber, fir balsam and patchouli."

Focus groups told Aramis that they associated "Mustang" with such words as "bold, muscle, fast, legendary, classic and affordable."

The Mustang scent is said to be aimed at "retrosexuals" or men described as "guys' guys."
